FIELD OF DREAMS

ALL IMAGES BY: Justin Saunders

It was an absolutely beautiful day for shooting on Sunday, and as we were driving around we saw this picturesque clover field with the city skyline in the back. It was a lot of fun frolicking in this field with the evening sun shining on my face. I also really love how the lush green clovers contrasts with the black and white of my outfit.

These black geometric shorts are so fun and versatile. The unique angles and shapes give them a touch of formality allowing you to either dress them up or down. They are good to have for a night out or just a day outing with friends.

I was really pleased with the way these came out and so happy to share them with you all! What is your spring wardrobe staple? I would love to hear in the comment section below. Happy Wednesday!

A DAY WITH DAD

Saturday, April 26, 2014

I wanted to start this post off by sharing a picture of the house I bought last October! Thus far, it has been the scariest/most rewarding decision I have made in life and I wouldn't change my mind for a second. Since I was not living here last spring I am thoroughly enjoying seeing everything blossom outside. Everyday I am pleasantly surprised at what kind of beautiful flowers the previous owners had planted (such as the ones I took pictures of below). Maybe this year I can plant some of my own!

As the title suggests, my dad came over to help with some much needed yard work, wood chopping, beer drinking, and barbecuing. My mama, a New Orleans native, is currently in the Big Easy visiting some old high school friends so we took this opportunity to have a dad and daughter day! Here are some pictures of today's activities.

Oh, and did I mention I have the cutest puppies ever? Sally is the black lab mix and Rico Suave (Rico for short) is the beagle boy. Since I don't have kids of my own you can say they are my babies.

Sally wanted to help dad with the wood....

Cheers to a beautiful Saturday! It was really great catching up with my dad while also getting work done around the house. My dad truly is one of the coolest dads out there. Who helps out his daughter in the drop of a hat and for that I am thankful.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you had a great Saturday as well!

DR. OZ 3-DAY CLEANSE

Friday, April 25, 2014

A couple of weeks ago my good friend Caroline SOMEHOW convinced me to do a cleanse with her. In my moment of feeling weighed down and sluggish, I agreed to it. We then decided we would do the Dr. Oz 3 day cleanse. For no particular reason other than it was only 3 days and didn't consist of just cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and honey. Gross.

As you can see from the above image, it is a 3 day cleanse of nothing but "drinks" as your meals. I didn't think it would be that hard because I love fruits and veggies however I struggled quite a bit. I never realized how much I enjoy carbs, coffee, cheese, and meat!

Anyways, I wanted to take this opportunity to give my review on this cleanse so maybe you will give it a try yourself!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because I have a day job I had to make all of my drinks the night before. We started on a Wednesday so I went Tuesday evening and picked up all the ingredients (the shopping list is on the diagram image above). There is quite a lengthy shopping list but mostly produce so it was not all scattered around the store. I then went home and began making my breakfast and lunch drink with my Ninja Master. You don't absolutely need this product, but it was helpful to have the food processor to really grind down the ingredients in the drink.

Day 1:
The hardest part of day 1 was not having my morning routine coffee! I actually thought my head might explode from the lack of strong caffeine but you are allowed green tea (I got caffeinated) and lemon so it wasn't too bad. As the day went on I was very irritable and tired. This is your body almost going into shock because it has been running off of bad toxins and it is trying to release those. Breakfast and lunch were both pretty filling although I did get hungry for dinner (my big meal normally). After making my dinner drink and prepping for the next day I was exhausted so I went to bed way earlier than I normally would. Side note, it recommends that you take a detox bath with Epson salt and lavender oil. However, for lack of energy and stupidity I forewent these baths each night. Which brings me to day 2.

This drink was pretty gritty and tart from the raspberries. I combated this by using the Stevia (meant for the tea) and put it in the breakfast drink every morning. It made it a lot better in my opinion but you don't have to do this. Also please excuse the tasty beer behind this healthy detoxing drink! Very ironic don't you think?

Day 2:
Headache wasn't as bad this morning. Still was slightly tired but definitely felt more awake than I would have normally at 7am without my coffee! Breakfast was fine (I drank it on the way to work), however I really struggled with lunch today as my body wanted something solid to consume. I wasn't going back now though. I will say it was helpful to do it with a friend because we kept each other motivated. When I was slipping she would motivate me and vice versa. This was one of those times, for sure! So I powered through it went home made my dinner drink and prepped breakfast and lunch again for the LAST day! Again, I was pretty exhausted so after watching some tv I feel asleep early snuggling with my puppies.

The Lunch Drink:

This picture makes it look absolutely disgusting, but it was actually my favorite drink of all contrary to other reviews I have read. I liked the "green taste of it" and it had a pretty strong cucumber taste. I love cucumber martinis so I lived vicariously through this drink.

FINALLY...

Day 3:
I felt completely alert this morning and honestly wouldn't have even needed my caffeinated green tea but it is a good detox-er so I drank it anyways. I felt super accomplished that I reached the last day and wasn't stopping now. I drank my breakfast and lunch drink as normal and then made my dinner drink when I got home. Now, I am not sure if my body was anticipating eating real food the next day or what but I was STARVING that night. I combated this by drinking some more green tea (though not recommended) but it was better than stuffing my face so I did it anyways. I then was so ready for the next day to come I went to sleep, and woke up feeling awesome!

The Dinner Drink

Again, this picture doesn't make it look too appetizing but I used my iPhone for these pics so it is what it is! This drink had a spicy kick to it as you have to add cayenne pepper as one of the ingredients. I am not a spicy food fan (even though I am a New Orleans girl) so this drink was my least favorite of all.

Benefits I felt:

-My clothes fit great

-I felt healthier
-Felt more energized
-opted for more healthy meals the next day when I could eat real food again
-Felt accomplished
-Lost a couple pounds
-Don't drink much coffee anymore and instead opt for green tea
-Don't feel so tired when I wake up in the mornings
-My skin feels healthier and more replenished

Overall, I am so glad I did it for my body and mind but as I said before it was a struggle for me. I love food too much. I might try to do it again and substitute only breakfast and lunch with drinks. Then have a very healthy "green" dinner just to get some substance.

I hope you enjoyed reading my experience and reviews! I would love to hear about any detoxes you may have ever done or if you have done this one. It would be interesting to hear others experiences on what worked and what didn't.

Thanks for stopping by!

ALIVE AT 25

ALIVE AT 25

With my 25th birthday quickly approaching, I wanted to share a list of 25 things I have learned living for a quarter of a century. I know I have made my fair share of mistakes in the past but life is about growing and learning from your experiences. After all, they are what has shaped you into the person you are today! So here it goes:

1. Be yourself no matter what circumstances arise. Being yourself is the coolest thing you could do and it makes people respect and love you more for it in the process.

2. Enjoy life as it comes to you because you never know when it could be taken away.

3. Know who your true friends are.

4. Keep those friends close to your heart and don't let them go. True friends are like finding an emerald in a sea of diamonds. They will stand out among the rest and are the most precious of all!

5. Love yourself before you can love another.

6. Persistence is key. In everything.

7. Find beauty in an otherwise ugly place.

8. Put yourself out there regardless of the risk.

9. It is okay to live in the grey (or at least some of the time).

10. If you don't like a situation, you have the power to change it!

11. Being beautiful on the inside is ten fold better than on the outside.

12. There is nothing better than staying home, cuddling with your significant other or puppies (if you don't have an SO), and watching a movie.

13. Be on time at all times. The "fashionably late" rule is something a consistently late person invented.

14. Motivation is the greatest thing to have in life. It forces you to achieve your aspirations.

15. Family always comes first.

16. You can never have too many shoes. Never.

17. Music can sooth your soul and wash away any negativity.

18. Live music shows and festivals are the most fun of all.

19. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't good enough because guess what, YOU ARE!

20. Puppies will always win. Sorry my cat loving friends and followers!

21. Never fall into the world of getting married and having babies if you aren't ready. Just because your friends are doing it doesn't mean that is your intended path.

22. Never get so busy building your life you forget to live it.

23. Be positive and everything else will fall into place. It's called the law of attraction, my friends, and it is real!

24. Always stay humble.

25. Birthdays are fun no matter what age you are.

And there it is! I have so much more to learn in this journey called life and I will have fun doing so. Here's to another 25 years...and another...and another...

HOPPY EASTER

Sunday, April 20, 2014

Happy Easter CY readers! I hope today was filled with lots of love, food, and reflection for you as I know it was for me. Even though I only live a short distance from my parents, I always feel like I don't get to see them as much as I would like. It was really nice to relax, enjoy some food, and catch up on what has been going on in our daily lives.

Here is a look that I put together for my families gathering today. It is very pastel inspired which is always perfect for Easter. The combination of a playsuit, sunhat, and a nude heels is casual yet elegant for a family gathering such as this!

Thanks for stopping by CY, I would love to hear your thoughts on this outfit or your favorite Spring outfit in the comment section below.

5 FASHION RULES YOU SHOULD IGNORE

Friday, April 18, 2014

5 Fashion Rules You Should Ignore

Rule #1:

Don't bother with anything but designer labels

In my experience, the cheaper the better. Who wants to go broke spending hundreds of dollars on a pair of shoes or clothing item that can easily be found at a  knockoff retailer or discount shoe store? Expert stylists actually encourage shopping outside of the designer realm at stores such as H&M, ASOS, Zappos, and Zara. Same quality at a cheaper price, how could you go wrong?

Rule #2:

Handbags should always match your outfit and shoes

There is nothing better than mixing and matching an outfit, with a pop of color from a hand bag, to really bring the outfit to life. Try experimenting with different patterns and colors and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the outcome!

Rule #3:

Mixing patterns and prints is a no-no

Actually mixing prints is extremely on trend right now, I think it gives a great amount of versatility to an outfit and makes it more interesting to the eye. Be brave and give it a try!

Rule #4:

Never wear white after Labor Day

White should never be constricted to a certain time of the year. It is a chic and classic color that can and should be warn all throughout the year.

Rule #5:

Never mix black and brown

This is my number one rule to break. I am not quite sure who even started this rule but I say throw it out from this point on! The contrast of black and brown is really beautiful when executed properly and actually is seen on many fashion runways now a days.

These are just a few rules that I tend to break regularly. As I said before, be brave and don't be afraid to be a rule breaker when it comes to fashion! I would love to hear from you so please leave a comment below with your thoughts or to even say hello!
